ive never got Ross barkley and I still dont-0 a real flat-track bully who is as likley to score a worldy as he is to run into an opppo or ignore a simple through pass- total luxury player and nowehere near good enough for international level

Re: England v Kosovo
I loved the way Kosovo played last night...attacking football on the front foot and the defending a little rough and ready without straying over the line of brutality.

I used to love football when you were allowed to defend - now it has gone too far in the other direction...break wind and the ref already has his fingers on the yellow card.

Re: England v Kosovo
Apart from concentrating on three England mistakes that Kosovo were good enough to turn into goals let’s not take anything away from a bright young newly international side because judging from last night Kosovo would brush aside wales, Scotland and NI much as England would.

I thought Declan played pretty well, tbh, and I can be his biggest critic.

He made an error for their second goal. I'm sure he's put his hand up and taken responsibility for it - he's that sort of character - and he won't make that error again.

Did the job that has generally been asked of him which is to drop deep, take possession from the back line and recycle it quickly. Kept it short, neat and sweet - by and large.

He's not the problem in England's midfield, the obvious lack of creativity from people playing ahead of him in midfield is.

Darby,

That's the problem with mordern football.

Its over analysed so much, that now a sloppy ball in the opponents half with plenty of people back, is now deemed as a terrible mistake.

Of course, its understandable that people judge players so harshly, because in the good old days players (even the not so good players) never ever gave the ball away.

Re: England v Kosovo
Rice was one of the most competent players in the first half. He plays a very limited role in this side. Everyone saying how exciting the game was but for spells it was boring. England playing a mind numbing possession game passing backwards and sideways. Guess what, we arent that good so we are always prone to a mistake playing this way. I reckon Pickford had more touches than Kane. Certainly the way England play seems to blunt the effectiveness of some players. Alexander-Arnold was a shadow of the player he is for Liverpool.
If you are not going to play people to their strengths then dont play them.
Not sure how Henderson keeps getting in sides. Probably the worst at passing backwards. We have some quality midfielders and choose this fool.

After reading this thread I was expecting a massive fuck-up, but I barely noticed the 'bad pass' when I watched the game highlights.

Re: England v Kosovo
One thing I noticed in the first half, was Berkley dropping deep and trying to bring the ball out of defence. Perhaps he was trying too hard to impress the manager, but I would be surprised if he was following orders because he should have been doing most of his work in the opposition's half. With Maguire also comfortable enough to bring the ball out of defence, this did leave Rice in a bit of no man's land. I agree that he needs to do more than just sideways and backwards passing to someone 2 yards away. He needs to assert himself more. But also, the supposedly attacking midfielders need to stick to the game plan and stop trying to play for themselves.

Exactly this.

He made one mistake and was punished, though the Kosovans still had a bit to do after his intercepted pass.

He has made and will make the odd mistakes for West Ham, but the measure of the young man is how he doesn't let it ruin him and works hard to iron out the imperfections in his game.

He's learning and getting stronger for club, as he is for country.

cholo 9:20 Wed Sep 11
Re: England v Kosovo
Rice has been directed by Southgate to make mostly very simple passes to keep possession ticking over, he doesn't do anywhere near that much sideways and backwards passing when he plays for us, neither does he get into the final third for England. If that's his role then stray pass aside he's doing OK.

Re: England v Kosovo
Get Gomez in the team and replace Henderson with Maddison and we will win Euro 2020. Shit hot going forward, at the back not great but if we outscore the opposition who cares

Rice is already better then Henderson. He made a mistake it happens, so did Keane. He also was vital in the 4th goal and broke up play and sparked attacks 4 or 5 times last night. He is an exceptional talent that will be heartbeat of Englands midfield for next decade.

Re: England v Kosovo
Rice did ok first half, winning a tackle to set up one of the counter goals but as with England generally he got pulled out of place second half. England are several players short though. You aren't going to progress with Henderson and I really don't think Barkley has lived up to his early promise. Would like to have seen Maddison to see if he can step up. Keane not good enough and football is money mad if Maguire is worth what he went for, I'd place Alvin and Galey over him any day.

Not sure where I’ve been wound up by you. Just making a minor point about your constant criticism.

Apparently that makes me a clown in your book. I’m beginning to think you’re the one who gets wound up by West Ham supporters daring to support a West Ham player.

Re: England v Kosovo
I would agree with Vexed, I thought Rice was piss poor. Bar his obvious error all he did all evening was slow the game down and the press they used against him turned England backwards all night, as he still doesn't have the confidence against that type of game plan.

Plus Maguire basically made him look redundant for most of the evening by playing out from the back.

Brilliant game? Only in the same way our u21s v Newport was, shower of shit bar Sterling.

Iron Duke 12:01 Wed Sep 11
Re: England v Kosovo
Sold, fair enough. I just don't think he should be singled out for criticism for one fuck up. You could add Berkley, Maguire, even Kane to that but again I wouldn't want to single them out. Sterling was devastating in the first half and won it for us. The whole midfield could have done better and both fullbacks were disappointing. But a cracking game nonetheless.

Northern Sold 11:55 Tue Sep 10
Re: England v Kosovo
Duke... he had a decent 1st half... the whole defensive line... and that includes him was pulled all over the place in the 2nd half... oh and playing that deep midfield role of picking the ball up and rolling it 5-10 yards to one of our players he should have 92% every bloody game... to be fair this is the first game for England that he has been caught out for me

Sven Roeder 11:52 Tue Sep 10
Re: England v Kosovo
If he is going to make mistakes much better they are here than in a more important game.
Like Oxford away in the League Cup
